The First Four Of The Ten Commandments
Though Ten Commandments seem rather difficult for every human being to follow and abide by, it is not at all so once these have been ingrained into your very conscience. Parents and teachers should instill these values in the hearts and minds of children to enable them to grow up keeping God's laws as their top most priority.
Let us go through the first four of the Ten Commandments that deal with our relationship with God. Let us find out what values can be learnt from each of them that we need to follow in our daily lives as well as pass on to our children to bring them up to be obedient and God fearing. These principles or leading a sin free life are simple and should not be difficult to bear in mind whether we are on our own or going about our business in the world of today. Ten Commandments act as a mirror or a reminder to regularly reflect on our innermost thoughts and seek forgiveness from God for any shortcomings or inadequacies in our lives.
The first Commandment states that - 'I am the Lord your God' - In this commandment God tells us that he is the one and only God. Jews across the globe believe in the one and only God who is omnipotent and omnipresent. Commandment number two says that 'You shall have no other Gods but Me' - Jews believe in the one and only God and have no other Gods. Therefore it is considered a sin to bow down to any other idol or worship any other God but the one true God.
"Thou shall not make for yourself any graven image' - God has laid down this commandment that all those who follow Judaism and Christianity and live their lives according to the tenets and principles of the Ten Commandments should not make any images or worship any idols that resemble anything that it on the earth, above the earth or under the waters of the sea. Bowing down to them and worshiping idols or any other figures is considered one of the biggest sins and all people young or old male or female should be taught this value and principal that they need to keep in mind and follow all the days of their lives.
God has instructed that every Jew 'Keep holy the Sabbath Day' - Saturday is the Sabbath day of the Jews and is considered a day of rest and a time to pray and devote to God. God created the world in six days and on the seventh day he rested. In the same way we should go about your work and matters of the world for six days but keep in mind the seventh day and devote that day to God in thankfulness and praise. These first four commandments are what need to be taught to each Jew from a very young age and remembered throughout the life. Obeying God's commandments should be our top priority and these values should never be forgotten or given less importance even though our lives are hectic and busy. Just running after fame, fortune and success will not make us contented, satisfied and prosperous but following God's commandments will make us strong and God fearing individuals.
